چکیده
A 19-year-old primigravida delivered a normal full-term infant. She had been hypertensive during the latter stages of pregnancy. She developed cortical blindness, headache, and proteinuria. On physical examination, blood pressure was 170-180/100. The fundi were not well seen, vision was limited to light perception, and the pupils were equal and reactive to light. No sensory or motor deficit was noted. Deep tendon reflexes were normal. A CT scan of the head was obta ined (fig. 1 A). A diagnosis of preeclampsia with cortical blindness was made and the patient was treated appropriately . Vision improved to 20/20 within 48 hr. At follow-up examination 2 weeks later, she was normotensive without antihypertensive medication. Repeat CT at 5 weeks (fig . 1 B) was normal.

Early preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome in a 20 week pregnant patient
The first time Weinstein in 1982 described patients with the syndrome of hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count (HELLP) in pregnant preeclamptic and eclamptic patients. This syndrome is a severe form of preeclampsia or eclampsia. Usually HELLP syndrome occurs at the third trimester and only 15% occur before the 27th week of pregnancy and rarely before the 20th week of pregna...
متن کاملAssociation of Nitric Oxide Synthase and Matrix Metalloprotease Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms with Preeclampsia and Its Complications
BACKGROUND Preeclampsia is one of the leading causes of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality in the world, but its appearance is still unpredictable and its pathophysiology has not been entirely elucidated. Genetic studies have associated single nucleotide polymorphisms in genes encoding nitric oxide synthase and matrix metalloproteases with preeclampsia, but the results are largely in...
متن کاملPosterior Reversible Leukoencephalopathy Syndrome in a Pre-Eclamptic Woman
Posterior reversible leukoencephalopathy syndrome (PRLS) is a neurologic condition, often presents with various clinical manifestations. It is rare during pregnancy. We herein report a case of PRLS in a 31-year-old woman, presented with preeclampsia, diagnosed by computer tomography, and successfully delivered the baby with caesarean section. At discharge, patient was fully recovered without an...
متن کاملManagement of Posterior Reversible Syndrome in Preeclamptic Women
Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) is a neurological syndrome associated with a number of conditions including preeclampsia. It is characterized by seizures, alteration of consciousness, visual disturbances, and symmetric white matter abnormalities, typically in the posterior parietooccipital regions of the cerebral hemispheres, at computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonanc...
متن کاملSpontaneous subdural hematoma associated with preeclampsia: a case report and litterature review
A patient with pre-eclampsia at 31 weeks' gestation developed neurologic signs. Computerized tomography revealed a large cranial subdural hematoma. This diagnostic should be considered in any pre-eclamptic patient demonstrating neurological symptoms and must be treated effectively because of the poor maternel and fetal prognosis. Our patient was succesfully treated.
